Janani Suraksha Yojana

Overview

Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission (NHM) being implemented with the objective of reducing maternal and neo-natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among the poor pregnant women. The Scheme has contributed immensely in increasing the Institutional deliveries among the BPL, ST and SC population. The progress of Scheme has been remarkable since inception and is expected to achieve good results in the years to come.

Benefits

Initially JSY benefit was paid after delivery before discharge of the beneficiaries from health facility. However, after Hon’ble Supreme Court’s instructions,Rs. 500/- is being paid 8 to 12 weeks before delivery without any age, parity and place restriction to eligible women and additional benefit (Rs. 200/- for rural area andRs. 100/- for urban area) are being paid to the beneficiaries after delivery.

As per Office Order No.: FW/MH/Changes in JSY//2013, dated 01/08/2013, JSY benefit ofRs. 700/- in Rural areas and Rs. 600/- in Urban areas are being paid 8 to 12 weeks before delivery and all JSY benefits are being made through Account payee Cheques or Direct Benefit Transfer.
